MacKenzie River Pizza

I was in MacKenzie River today in Whitefish Montana. I go there often and love the food. The service is usually great. The woman hustle and are very nice, the men are suave and saunter, not in a big hurry but OK service. Love the beer, its always fresh. Today, I went in to make a to go order, the guy asked me to repeat parts of my order 4 times, the music behind the counter was blaring and he could not hear me. When my order was done, another guy asked if he could help me, I said yes I made a to go order, I pointed at the order and he looked away. The original guy walked by the order to the back and when he came out he said, oh - I think this is your order, he sauntered slowly to it and handed it to me but would not let go until he convinced hisself I had paid, i paid 20 minutes earlier and the restaurant was not busy. I felt a bit strange and 30 minutes later when i got home with my pizza, it was not near as good as it usually is.

Tupelo Grille Whitefish Montana

The first lucky restaurant on my Review list is Tupelo Grille in Whitefish, Northwest Montana. It is located right downtown Whitefish at 17 Central Ave.

I had been there several times over the past few years. Last time I was there, I had the maui maui fish special. And my dining companion had the “out of this world pot roast”.

I ordered a bottle of beer and a side of tomato juice, I guess tomato juice is not hip here. They did not have tomato juice to go with my beer. So I decided to just have the bottle of beer. When the beer came, it was very cold and so was the glass, which is a good thing. I poured the bottle of beer into my glass, and there was something black inside of the beer. I returned the beer and got another beer. Now this was probably not Tupelo’s fault, I don’t know if the beer was old or what. The second beer did not have this issue.

The pictures on the wall are pretty much the same ones that have been there for years.

At the table next to us, we overheard someone say don't get the sauce, as long as you don't get the sauce it will be okay. We commented to ourselves that with the Cajun sauce that they put on everything it was like you cannot even taste the real food, so it would not even matter if it was old or the catch of the day.

The lettuce in the salad was past its prime and had been for quite awhile. The presentation of the food was very nice, and the first couple of bites was very good, but then again the spice was so overwhelming that I could not really tell. The waiter was a bit arrogant. The pot roast
was definately of this world.

The owner was tending bar. It was obvious that he was the owner because of the way he stood there like the Lord of the Manor or a prison gaurd. He watched everything everybody did, and it made me uncomfortable. I cannot relax in this atmosphere. Plus he watched over the staff so tightly and without so much as a smile that you could tell they were uptight and it was not a loose fun environment. How can you have fun when your boss is standing over you with a mad face the whole night ?

I know lots of people like Tupelo’s. I am not one of them. I like to have room around my table to move around. The table, they tried to sit us at did not have enough room for my arm to move. And the intimate dining is obviously kept for folks that look a certain way.

There are more tables jammed together than this picture shows

So, try out this restaurant and comment on this website. And if we have it wrong about this restaurant. Please set the record straight by commenting and letting folks know what you thought about this restaurant.
Apparantly they have won all kinds
of awards and are well recommended
Check out the list below and say Hmmmm
